Not so great.. here’s why…

1st order: I ordered the 90oz box of 2nd cut Timothy hay & it was great! My guinea pigs loved it. It was truly a 2nd cut hay with soft pieces & stems with the “flowers” that they love.

2nd order: I decided to go with a big box! Ordered the 20lb Timothy hay. It took quite awhile to finally arrive. Like a week, literally. I had to buy hay from the big chain store bc it took so long.
This time… the hay was extremely dusty. Like 1/4th of the box was pure dust. The hay itself was okay but lots of brown pieces. Definitely different than the 1st order though.
A rep from the company contacted me & sent me free Timothy hay to make up for the enormous amount of dust in the 20lb box.

The free hay: It was good. Not too hard & not too much brown non-edible hay like the 20lb box. A good 2nd cut hay.

3rd order: Since my 1st order of the 90oz Timothy hay was great & the 90oz boxes that the rep sent me were good, I decided to order more of the 90oz boxes of 2nd cut Timothy hay & no longer chance it on the bigger boxes (since quality assurance obvious varies between the sizes). Oh man, this 3nd order is pretty bad. TONS of hard pieces, like anytime I go to grab hay it pierces my skin! Ouch! This is akin to 1st cut and is so super hard! Not luscious, soft and green like my very 1st order. Why the actual heck am I spending so much $$$ on this 2nd cut Timothy hay when it varies SO much!? 😩
It’s like they combined 1st cut and a tiny bit of true 2nd cut to sell it as a full 2nd cut. I feel ripped off. My guinea pigs eat around the hard yellow pieces and leave those behind (which is a lot!)

So, in conclusion, I won’t be buying this brand again, unfortunately. I feel like I gave a lot of chances and tried different sizes, but with this last order they’re really trying to stretch out their stock of 2nd cut by adding in 1st cut, or something. I’m really saddened by this. The search for great 2nd cut continues…

Hi Amanda,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and honest review of your experiences with our Timothy hay. We really appreciate your loyalty and the multiple chances you gave us to meet your expectations.

First, we're so happy to hear your guinea pigs enjoyed the hay from your first order and the replacement boxes we sent — that’s exactly the quality we aim to deliver every time.

That said, we're truly sorry to hear that your second and third orders didn’t meet the same standard. The inconsistency you've described — especially with the 20lb box being overly dusty and the 90oz box containing hard, prickly stems — is not what we consider acceptable for our 2nd cut Timothy hay. Your experience is frustrating, and we completely understand why you feel let down and hesitant to continue purchasing from us.

We want to be transparent: hay is a natural product, and differences can occur between harvests and box sizes. However, that shouldn’t mean sacrificing quality or safety — for you or your pets. Your feedback is a clear signal that we need to improve quality control across all packaging sizes.

Even though you’ve decided not to purchase from us again, we truly value your support and the effort you put into giving us multiple opportunities. If you’d be open to it, we’d love one more chance to make this right — whether that means replacing your last order or providing a refund.

Please feel free to reach out directly if you’d like us to follow up. And thank you again — your guinea pigs are lucky to have someone who cares so much about their well-being.

Warm regards,
Megan
