About Us
A little(or a lot) about us! In order to tell the story of Round Lake Farm Products I need to first bring you back to 1978 to see how this 3rd generation family owned company got started…..
First I will introduce you to my grandparents, Darrell and Sally Reber. Back in 1978 they bought 46 acres of land in Kent, Washington. Darrell, an airline pilot at the time was living in the Midwest. On a trip out to Seattle he took note of the nice spring weather and thought this would be a great place to retire. The family including their 3 sons, Randy, Scott and Todd moved out to Kent. The land he bought was originally a dairy farm and had one house and one old dairy barn on the property. With the help of his 3 sons, they started Reber Ranch which like the times has gone through many transformations since its inception in 1978.
With 46 acres of land the family needed to decide what to use it for. There was a local horse racetrack in the area, Long Acres, and during the off season of racing the trainers needed a place to board and train their horses. Darrell saw this as an opportunity and the family turned the property into a horse training facility. Over the next 6 years they added 4 large barns which boarded over 300 horses and a ½ mile racetrack for training. By 1984 the old dairy barn was now used as a retail store selling hay, feed and supplies.
Always looking to grow and expand the business the family started a wholesale distribution company in 1987. My dad, Randy, along with a business partner founded Animal Supply Company. Today Animal Supply Company is the largest distributor to stores like ours!
In 1991 the retail store on the property suffered a devastating fire and was destroyed. Unphased the family turned one of the four barns into the new and improved 18,000 square foot retail store which is still used today. From 1991 to now the store has been expanded and includes a vet hospital and grooming salon.
By 1992 the store was ever expanding to cater to pets and small animals in addition to hay and feed. Darrell developed a mini-bale hay product for small animals to sell in the store. One of the original horse barns was transformed into a mini bale production facility. Today, the product is sold in our stores and other independent retailers.
Fast forward to 2010, the family bought a hay farm in Soap Lake, Washington. This 4,000 acre farm allowed us to grow our own high quality hay to be sold in our store and others like it.
43 years after Reber Ranch was started Round Lake Farm Products was officially launched in 2021! This became an official North American brand. In 2023 the plant was expanded to Soap Lake where all the new pellet diets, baked treats and litter are made. The products are now sold in over 1200 stores across North America and into Canada!
As you can see this 3rd generation family-owned business has gone through so many changes over the years. The common theme is our commitment to providing your pets and animals with high quality products and services!
