The hay itself is great. I'm guessing they use machines to pack the hay in the boxes, which is the part that I have a problem with and the only reason I gave four instead of five stars.
If I was buying hay for a horse where I would unload all of the box as soon as I open it then I wouldn't have a problem. But I'm buying it for guinea pigs where I open the box take some out and then normally I would close the box again... only that's impossible, it will not close. In fact I fed 5 guinea pigs for the last 2 weeks from this box and it still will not close again. The hay was that compressed into the box. And since the boxes are sold by weight it's not like I'm getting anymore I'm getting the same amount.
I've purchased hay from Small Pet Select for the last year and never had this problem with their hay. I've had problems with their hay being especially dusty which is why I decided to try Round Lake Farm.
However aside from the compressed in the box issue, the hay quality is great and my guinea pigs love it.
